tinyB's Spring Chocolate Egg Making Experience

Every year in the weeks after Carnival celebrations, all Brazilians come together and show their appreciation for one another through the act of giving chocolate eggs. For some, it’s related to Easter, but for others, it’s just a chance to indulge in and share chocolate to those you love.

It’s also a time of year that’s especially close to my heart. I spent countless Easters helping my mom and sisters make thousands of hand-crafted chocolate eggs for our local community. It was exhausting, but at the same time amazing to share the magic of chocolate with everyone.

This year’s tinyB Spring Chocolate Egg Making Experience captures some of that magic. You’ll do everything from making your own chocolate shells to filling and decorating them and assembling your own eggs. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Instructions and ideas

Dark Chocolate Egg

Easter Egg Pink

Preparation:

  1. Clear a workspace and set out your kit’s contents
  2. Pour each topping onto separate plates
  3. Separate the paper cups
  4. Open the brigadeiro containers and reserve a spoon for each
  5. Prepare a wipe or paper towel and a small bowl of water or butter for your hands
  6. Empty each of the ‘melting chocolate’ packets into separate microwave safe bowls. Note: If you do not have access to a microwave, you will need to set up a double boiler (fill a saucepan with an inch of water and place the bowl of chocolate gently on top of the saucepan making sure the bowl fits snugly)

Classic Brigadeiros

Make some classic brigadeiros or spring-inspired brigadeiro shapes from your leftover brigadeiro filling.

Filling: Wet or lightly butter your hands. Scoop some brigadeiro (not the spread) from the container and gently roll it in your hands until it is round. Roll quickly or it will become too soft to work with. You can also get creative and shape the brigadeiro into a spring-inspired shape like an egg or a flower!

Decorating: Choose one or more toppings and roll your brigadeiro in the topping/s on the plate until evenly covered. Roll it gently in your hands or press it with your fingers to make sure the toppings are firmly attached to the brigadeiro. Place it in a paper cup or on a plate. And that’s it. Just taste, repeat using different flavors and textures, and enjoy!

  • To make a marbled chocolate shell, melt the two chocolates separately and spoon some of each into a separate bowl. With the stick end of a spoon, gently pull the stick across the bowl 2-3 times and place in the mold as per the instructions above.
  •  The chocolate egg shells can be prepped in advance. Just store them in a sealed container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to fill and decorate them!
  • Try filling your chocolate eggs with some other pantry goodies like your favorite candy, some crushed cookies, or some crumbled cake mixed with brigadeiro.
  • You can save some chocolate to melt and use to ‘glue’ candy or other edible decorations to the outside of the chocolate egg.
  • If your brigadeiro filling is too soft to roll, refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • For the best flavor experience, cleanse your palate between sampling brigadeiros. Sparkling water, a slice of apple, or water with lemon work well.
  • The passion fruit brigadeiro spread is great to use on toast or baked goods. You can also warm it in the microwave for 10 seconds and turn it into a pourable sauce for ice cream!

Activities

Chocolate Egg Creativity Challenge

Once the chocolate shells are ready, set a timer for 15 minutes. Choose any brigadeiro, toppings, props, or pantry staples to make the most creative chocolate egg. Present your creations and vote. Award categories could include: Best Overall, A for Effort, Best Sales Pitch, Most Colorful, Best Use of Tools, Most Original Flavor Combination.

Pantry Pairing

Try mixing and matching your brigadeiro centers with other pantry staples like spices, salt, cereals, cookies, candies, and nuts to see if you can come up with a fun new combination. Or perhaps you can try mixing the brigadeiro in your coffee or hot chocolate or spreading it on a cookie to see how the flavor profile changes.

Explore Taste and Texture

Foods can take on a number of different flavor and texture profiles when mixed together, such as sweet, salty, spicy, sweet & sour, fruity, classic, smooth, crunchy, and more! Choose 3 different flavor profiles and try to make 3 different brigadeiros with that in mind. What’s the most surprising flavor combination you can come up with? See how creative you can be!

Chocolate Fondue

Chocolate can make almost anything taste better, especially if it’s melted. Wow everyone with a fondue platter. Just microwave the brigadeiro spread and pour it into a small fondue bowl. Serve with a platter of fresh cut fruit like strawberries or bananas and some cookies. Everyone will love it!
